Learning together to love our neighbors as ourselves

Casa Chirilagua

about the ministry

Mujeres de Virtud is a community of women from Chirilagua who have expressed a desire to see their community changed and believe that change can start with them through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  The group has grown to about 30 women in Alexandria and 20 women in Arlington.

Activities include a monthly fellowship gathering where women from both groups come together for a few hours in fellowship, food, and fun to learn more about who God is and how they can best serve one another and their communities.  Child care is provided for the whole meeting so that the women can do a reflective devotional and spend time getting to know one another.

Other aspects of Mujeres de Virtud include access to social resources, spiritual discipleship, and leadership development.  Women need both social and spiritual tools to be effective conduits of change that they desire for their community. For many women, they have spent years ‘alone’ in the community they live in, but now through fellowship with Mujeres de Virtud, they have found a community of women who desire to walk the journey together.  And their is something very special about a group of similarly visioned women living in proximity. Great transformations and incredible support can take place!

Once a year, the women of Chirilagua go with the women of Arlington to a retreat with other Mujeres de Virtud groups in New York.  The yearly retreat is a time for Latina women to connect with others from all over the east coast and share about God’s faithfulness and God’s power in their lives and in their communities.  For many women in Chirilagua, this is the only time of the year they recieve the opportunity to leave their neighborhood and seek needed rest.  Despite the many hurdles financially and domestically, God provided a way for 19 women to go on the retreat last year.  We hope that it will be even more this year!

This grant is helping fund our bi-monthly meetings in which we gather for dinner and study the book of Philippians.  The women recently attended the Women of Faith conference in Washington, DC on August 27th and 28th.
